Logistics & Transportation Case Study

Transport Management System

Cloud-native microservices platform for logistics with IoT tracking, reducing delivery delays by 40%.

Transport Management System

The Challenge

A leading logistics provider faced significant inefficiencies in fleet operations, lacking real-time visibility into vehicle locations and dynamic route adjustments. This resulted in delayed deliveries, suboptimal scheduling, and poor communication between drivers and dispatchers, impacting customer satisfaction and operational costs.

Manual processes for vehicle assignment, order entry, and status updates led to errors and duplicated efforts, while the absence of integrated tracking prevented proactive decision-making.

The business objective was to build a comprehensive microservices-based platform across mobile apps, desktop, and web tailored exclusively for the company, enabling real-time monitoring, automated notifications, and data-driven analytics for internal scalable growth.

The Solution

We delivered a modern microservices-based Transport Management System (TMS) leveraging cloud-native architecture on Azure, designed for single-tenant deployment to meet the company's dedicated operational needs.

Key features include scheduling of vehicles and drivers, LTE/5G & IoT-enabled real-time tracking, client-side order entry with RFID integration, in-app messaging, automated email notifications, advanced reporting dashboards, and damage reporting with photo capture and digital signatures.

Tech Stack

.NET Core APIs
PostgreSQL on Azure
Microsoft Azure (AKS, IoT Hub)
React.js with Electron
Swift (iOS) / Kotlin (Android)
LTE/5G IoT Modems
RFID / SendGrid
Azure DevOps / Terraform

Implementation

Adopting a microservices architecture deployed on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), we integrated Azure IoT Hub for secure vehicle telemetry ingestion via LTE/5G modems, Event Hubs for event streaming, and Azure Functions for serverless processing of real-time updates.

Our team of 12-including project managers, architects, native developers, and DevOps-focused on native mobile apps with offline sync and hybrid LTE/5G support, web dashboard with real-time WebSockets, and integrations for RFID and email notifications. We ensured zero-downtime deployments using CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps and Terraform IaC, achieving 99.9% uptime from day one.
